Owner, designer and sirena, Lissa Flemming has been adventuring between the Great Lakes and the Gulf of California since 1990. In the winters you'll often find her Dog Mushing in Wisconsin's Northwoods or exploring south of the border, as a sea kayak guide or simply floating in the turquoise waters. During the summers, Lissa lives and works in Wisconsin's Northwoods, sea kayaking Lake Superior's Apostle Islands with Living Adventure Inc., an instructional and sea kayak guide service just north of Bayfield. She has paddled thousands of miles and has an intimate knowledge and respect of the water and the cultures surrounding the waterways. Her original paddling, wave and water designs reflect her deep passion and respect for the water. Watch for her newest one of a kind Precious Metal Clay fine silver pendants and earrings.
A Word from Lissa:
Through my experiences paddling all over the world, I've have had many
intriguing and life-changing experiences.
In Baja's untouched Gulf of California I've encountered diving fin whales
from my kayak and brushed up against friendly gray whales from panagas. I've
paddled rugged volcanic coast lines, learned the art of tortilla making in
remote fishing villages, snorkeled with dancing sea lions and surfed the
waves on the Pacific coast.
In the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior I've explored red sandstone cliffs
and paddled into wind and wave-carved caves. I've encountered eagles, bears
and beavers, snorkeled the wrecks with kayaks in tow, and learned from the
Native American culture on the Red Cliff Reservation. I've soaked in the<
autumn colors of Basswood Island and listened to the haunting call of the
loon through the early morning mist.
Two different lands. Many different perspectives. Silverwaves - Olas de
Plata was inspired by my passion for the oceans and marine life, for sea
kayaking, for the Northwoods and for the diverse cultures of the Americas.
The creation of Silverwaves - Olas de Plata starts with a partnership with
local Mexican artisans in Taxco, Guerrero and Baja California Sur. From my
designs, we create original kayak, canoe, Northwoods creature and whale
designs. One to two trips a year to the cobblestone streets of Taxco, Guerrero ensure that Silverwaves - Olas de Plata jewelry contains the highest quality and purity of silver. It also allows me to refine the
designs and monitor the craftsmanship in collaboration with the artisans who
I now call my friends.
Muchas gracias for choosing Silverwaves!
