Cost: $175.00 + $25 materials fee

More fun with design as paper and cloth come together in collage.

See the tabs below to learn more about this workshop.

Donalee says with glee: “The wild fun of combining paper & cloth in collage is so personal. We will paint, Gelli print, tear, cut paper of all kinds. We’ll use solid paper, magazine photos, tissue, silk organza, and all kinds of cool fibers to create your one of a kind piece or pieces.

Your supply fee of $25.00 will include lots of papers, fibers, and use of Gelli plates for printing deli paper.”

I’m an abstract contemporary improv textile artist. What does that mean? Basically, I use fabric, paint, dyes, and thread to create, colorful works of art that don’t fit neatly into any one category.

My approach to making art is a lot like the way I used to make jewelry. I don’t have a rigid plan when I start a piece; instead, I let the materials guide me and see where the creative process takes me. It’s a completely spontaneous process. I like to work with different surface textures and materials; many l’ve created out of solid white fabric, to help my pieces tell the story.

Sometimes I use traditional techniques, but I also like to experiment with unexpected materials to push the boundaries of what textiles can be. When I stand back and look at my work, I’m personally filled with a sense of joy and delight viewing the contrasts. With bold brushstrokes, delicate hand embroidery, and unexpected colors, I aim to create pieces that invite viewers to explore and engage with the work in their own unique way. Sparking conversations and connections that might be meaningful to them.
